Toward a Strategic Economic Partnership: A Significant U.S. Business Delegation Visits Iraq

As part of efforts to strengthen economic relations between the Republic of Iraq and the United States of America, a high-level U.S. business delegation has arrived in Baghdad—the largest of its kind to date. The delegation is led by Mr. Steve Lutes, Vice President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and includes 101 representatives from over 60 leading American companies operating in the fields of energy, technology, and healthcare.
This important visit, officially approved by the U.S. Department of Commerce, marks a new milestone in bilateral economic cooperation. It reflects a shared commitment to expanding the partnership between the two nations toward strategic horizons that serve mutual interests and support Iraq’s development goals.
During their stay, the delegation is scheduled to hold a series of high-level meetings with senior Iraqi officials and private sector representatives to explore avenues for cooperation, exchange perspectives on economic reform, improve the investment climate, and broaden American corporate engagement in vital projects across Iraq.
It is worth noting that this visit is the result of sustained efforts by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington, D.C., with direct support from the Iraqi government at the highest levels. Over recent months, the embassy has worked to activate tools of economic diplomacy and strengthen coordination with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other relevant institutions, as part of a strategic approach to building robust partnerships with the American private sector.
Iraq–U.S. economic relations are witnessing notable progress, transitioning from traditional forms of cooperation to partnerships based on mutual interests—especially in the fields of renewable energy, digital technology, and the development of health and education infrastructure.
