Iraq continues to consolidate its relations with the United States through practical cooperation and a long-term strategic vision.
In Baghdad, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani oversaw the signing ceremony of a framework agreement between the Iraqi Ministry of Oil and the American company Chevron. The agreement covers the Nasiriyah Project (including four exploration blocks), the development of the Balad oil field, as well as other producing fields and additional exploration areas in Iraq.
This milestone reflects the new approach adopted by the Iraqi government in opening up to leading global companies—particularly American firms—by providing a secure and transparent investment environment, fostering innovation, and developing energy infrastructure. The Prime Minister welcomed Chevron’s return to Iraq, praising its role in transferring oil technologies, its community contributions, and its sound environmental practices in project implementation.
Beyond its technical aspects, this agreement underscores a deeper reality: the relationship between Iraq and the United States is a solid strategic partnership that continues to grow even amid regional turbulence. Both countries recognize the importance of energy security—not only for Iraq’s development but also for the stability of global markets.
The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington affirms that this cooperation is part of a broader vision to enhance Iraq’s position as a trusted partner and to build bridges of friendship that go beyond immediate challenges. Iraq remains committed to attracting global investment, developing its oil and gas sector with the latest technologies, and strengthening the foundations of its ever-growing strategic friendship with the United States.
