Ambassador Nazar Alkhirullah Honors Legacy During Visit to Dr. Louay Bahry

In a moving tribute to memory, scholarship, and patriotism, Ambassador Nazar Alkhirullah visited Dr. Louay Bahry, esteemed writer and husband of the late Dr. Phebe Marr—one of the most prominent American voices dedicated to understanding Iraq.

During the visit, Dr. Bahry graciously gifted the Embassy Dr. Marr’s personal library, a rare and invaluable collection including first editions, historical interviews, and unique materials documenting Iraq’s political history. This exceptional collection will be transferred to the Iraqi National Library, where it will serve as a lasting resource for scholars and future generations.

In addition, Dr. Bahry entrusted the Embassy with three ancient Iraqi artifacts, to be repatriated and preserved at the National Museum of Iraq, reaffirming the shared responsibility to protect and restore Iraq’s cultural heritage.

This meaningful gesture reflects the Embassy’s deep commitment to honoring shared history, strengthening U.S.-Iraq academic and cultural relations, and preserving legacy as a bridge between generations.
