From the cradle of civilization to the heart of the United States, Iraq’s rich heritage of dates shone in a special celebration hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington.
The reception brought together ambassadors, representatives of U.S. institutions, friends of the Embassy, and members of the Iraqi community. Guests had the opportunity to explore a wide selection of Iraqi dates, each variety reflecting centuries of tradition and carrying the living flavor of Iraq’s history.
Among the most notable varieties presented were Barhi and Khastawi (Khadhib) dates, both internationally recognized as symbols of Iraqi hospitality, renowned for their sweetness and superior quality. For Iraqis, dates are not merely food but a living bond connecting the past with the present.
The event was attended by diplomats serving in the United States as well as American partners and friends, underscoring the importance of cultural diplomacy. Iraq’s date palm heritage serves as a bridge for fostering friendship and cooperation across borders.
For thousands of years, Iraq’s palm groves have stood as witnesses to its ancient civilizations. Their roots continue to extend into the future as Iraq remains committed to preserving the identity of its palms and passing on the legacy of date cultivation to future generations.
The Embassy emphasized that such cultural initiatives reflect Iraq’s broader mission to strengthen ties with the United States—not only through politics and economics, but also through shared heritage and human connections that inspire future generations.
The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the guests who joined this celebration, reaffirming that such events embody Iraq’s cultural diplomacy in sharing its timeless traditions with friends and partners alike.
